Nicholas Nalder

"Do something you are passionate about, and can see yourself in."

What kind of things do you do in your current job?

My current role is to facilitate and manage ‘coordinated projects’ through the Environmental Impact Statement process, on behalf of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). This includes providing technical responses, as well as liaising with regional officers to achieve the best outcome for the state and TMR. I also provide responses regarding input in Priority Development Areas.

How have your studies helped you in your career?

The support from lecturers and tutors was fantastic. The staff are genuinely interested in nurturing you to be the best planner you can be, and provide you with all the tools necessary to start you off in the world of planning.

Socially, the connections I have made have continued above and beyond just university. I see many friends from my graduate cohort both professionally and socially.

What are your plans for the future?

I have a lot of leave saved up at work so I really want to travel (hopefully to Canada), and of course, continue to work in planning!

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting their career?

Do something you are passionate about, and can see yourself in. If you are passionate, it is so much more satisfying when you achieve great outcomes. You can develop a career you genuinely love.
