Jay Jayabalan

I feel extremely proud to work with and represent market leaders in pet care.”

Why did you study food science?

I chose food science as my field of study because of its diverse environment and my passion for food. A career in food industry is not limited to desk job or laboratory work. There is always something to match everyone’s need, whether in quality assurance, research, manufacturing sales, marketing or education. A degree in food science in essence is multidisciplinary, which opens numerous opportunities.

In India, UQ is perceived as one of the best universities in Australia, especially strong in the field of food and agriculture.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I want to advocate for the importance of pets in our personal lives. My passion for pets matches my company's principle of creating a 'better world for pets'.

What kind of work do you do as part of your job?

I create new pet food products, and ensure that they use the best raw material, meet quality and food safety standards, and are up to the mark in palatability, freshness and nutrition.

What advice do you have for someone deciding how to start their career?

I recommend choosing UQ as your university. UQ has a rich history in developing students into strong young professionals in the field of science.
