Science and mathematics

The world needs more scientists and mathematicians to solve problems in finance, the environment, science, food and quantum physics.

Science covers an ever-evolving range of sub-disciplines which involve observation, experimentation, and the testing and development of new ideas and products. UQ Science graduates now work in fields including chemistry, biochemistry, ecology, genetics, psychology and statistics.

Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. Mathematicians seek out patterns, formulate new conjectures, and establish truth by rigorous deduction from appropriately chosen axioms and definitions.

A degree in a STEM field will develop your critical thinking and analytical skills and prepare you for a fulfilling and successful career:

  • Demand for workers with STEM skills is growing across all industries1
  • Jobs in STEM are projected to grow 14% by 2026, twice as fast as non-STEM jobs2
  • More than half of employers expect the need for STEM-qualified professionals to increase3
